AI Engineer Hybrid – Attached to our Solihull, London or Hook office Full Time, Permanent Band 3 / £70,000 - £85,000 (dependent on experience) Here at Serco, we’re looking for an AI Engineer, you will design and build enterprise Generative AI agents that leverage LLMs, retrieval systems, APIs, and orchestration frameworks to deliver intelligent automation, decision support, and conversational experiences. You will define and uphold GenAI architecture standards, ensuring reusable, secure, and production-ready AI capabilities across cloud and data platforms. Acting as a technical authority for AI engineering, you will influence architecture, platform, cyber, and delivery decisions across the organisation. As part of this you’ll: Design and own enterprise GenAI and agent architectures, including LLM integration, orchestration, memory, tools, and deployment patterns Translate business needs into scalable AI agent solutions (co-pilot, autonomous, multi-agent), defining success metrics and guardrails Build and deploy GenAI agents integrating LLMs with APIs, retrieval systems, and structured reasoning workflows Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions with secure, permission-aware enterprise knowledge integration Engineer prompts, policies, and guardrails to ensure Responsible AI, safety, compliance, and explainability Ensure performance, resilience, cost efficiency, and reliability through monitoring, optimisation, and fallback strategies Embed security, privacy, and governance-by-design across all AI solutions Integrate AI agents into enterprise systems, platforms, and workflows using reusable, production-ready components Act as technical authority for AI engineering, leading resolution of complex design, performance, and failure issues Drive experimentation with emerging models, frameworks, and agentic AI patterns to advance capability maturity Collaborate with architecture, cyber security, data, product, and delivery teams to align AI solutions to enterprise standards Support strategic roadmaps, investment cases, and technology adoption decisions for GenAI platforms What you’ll need to do the role: 8+ years’ experience in enterprise-scale data engineering, AI, or ML environments Proven experience delivering production-grade AI, ML, or Generative AI solutions Strong Python and SQL skills, with experience in distributed or large-scale data processing (e.g., PySpark, Databricks) Deep expertise in LLMs, prompt engineering, and GenAI platforms (e.g., OpenAI, Claude, Llama) Experience with AI agent frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, Azure AI Studio, MLflow) Strong understanding of RAG architectures and enterprise knowledge integration Experience deploying AI solutions in cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP) Understanding of MLOps, CI/CD, and production deployment practices Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to senior stakeholders Experience with multi-cloud AI platforms (Azure, AWS, Databricks) – desirable Knowledge of TensorFlow, PyTorch, XGBoost, or similar ML frameworks – desirable Experience in enterprise governance, metadata management, or data platforms – desirable Cloud certifications (Azure AI Engineer, AWS ML Specialty, Databricks, etc.) – desirable SC clearance (or willingness to obtain it) What we offer: Company car 5% on target bonus scheme Private medical insurance Flexible working considered Pension – 6% Chance to contribute to innovation in the public services A company passionate about diversity and inclusion Serco discounts which include cinema, merlin entertainment and online shopping discounts, and discounts on mobile phone plans and leisure centre memberships.
